The Federal Inspectorate for Heavy Current Installations (ESTI) inspected a total of 1,260 electrical products in 2023. Major and minor defects were found in almost a quarter of the products inspected. As a result, 114 sales bans had to be imposed. There were also 10 recalls and safety warnings for electrical devices.( 1) It is worrying that the majority of house and apartment fires in Switzerland are caused by electrical devices.(2)

The Swiss-wide market surveillance is carried out by ESTI and is carried out in accordance with the Ordinance on Low-Voltage Electrical Products (NEV; SR 734.26). As part of this surveillance, electrical products for households, offices, businesses and industry are randomly tested for their conformity and safety on a risk-based basis.

Prevention is the key to success: S+ safety sign

The S+ safety mark confirms that an electrical product meets the legal requirements regarding electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility in accordance with the Ordinance on Low-Voltage Electrical Products ( NEV ). It serves as a visible sign of quality and safety. By acquiring the voluntary safety mark in accordance with NEV, we show our colors.

We guarantee our customers compliance with the legal regulations regarding electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The safety mark is issued on the basis of test reports or certificates of conformity issued by accredited testing bodies. Alternatively, international certificates such as CB and CCA with the associated test reports must be available. The safety mark is the visible proof of safe and trouble-free use of the product, which is ensured by testing and market surveillance. The safety mark is therefore above the CE marking, which is to be understood as a self-declaration by manufacturers of all types of products - not just electrical ones.
